My First Gallery

Most new bloggers for their first post will write a simple welcome post. Yah know the ones poorly written, showing that the person who was on the side of the computer that ran the blog was blatently scared and nervous to be posting on the internet. Who will judge me? What will my family say? Will my friends think it's lame? Well, fun fact, this is probably my eighth blog, but second (hopefully second) serious one. I've written plenty of welcome posts throughout the couple blogs, and I just really wanted to skip it this time around, haha. If you want to know more about me check out my About Me Page, and if you want more information about why I started this blog and my aspirations with it check out About This Blog.

So to start on a little bit of the story of my art journey, I was a high school freshman very, very uninspired with my art. I genuinely thought I sucked, and I was very insecure about anything I did. My elementary school art teacher really saw potential in me, but my heart wasn't towards the arts, it was towards Marine Biology, and trust me, I was going NO WHERE with that. My middle school only allowed electives to be 9 weeks long so I never had enough dabbling in the arts for those three years. High School hit and I was in a whole new world involving art. So many more mediums to explore, so many more options for ideas, so much more exposure for your art. It was amazing once I stepped into my first art class freshman year. My first art teacher at my high school 100% saw the potential in me that I never saw in myself and she completely pushed me to my greatest potential. At this current moment, I am working on a mural with her at a local church in town. Talk about pushing me for the past three years to feel comfortable working with her, and two of my fellow classmates on a giant mural. Honestly all my confidence I have in my artwork I owe to her because she really encouraged me throughout the years to keep taking art classes and making art.

One of my fondest memories of high school would probably be my first experience in an art gallery. I remember her bringing up the project to me and two other girls and I thought it was the most amazing thing ever. She said we would all make our own prints to submit to a state colleges high school art exhibit and competition. It's not a big deal for freshman to be in this show at all, but for a 14 year old girl who barley did anything in art and then be asked to be put in a show is mind blowing. I of course said yes and created this piece below.

It was made on a giant lino board and it took me multiple weeks to work out. It's definitely impressionistic and has many, many flaws but I love this piece so much. Because it won me second place in the gallery, and then was sent to many other shows where it did considerably well, it gave me the confidence I needed to take more, and more art classes. Looking back as a Senior on this piece gives me so much joy because I love seeing how much I've really grown over the years as an artist. I've learned so much from the three teachers I've had throughout high school. I wanted this to be my first post just to show that this was my starting point that pushed me to create all the art that will be showcased on this blog for hopefully many years to come.
